If you are planning to demolish a house, The Habitat Store offers free deconstruction services within 20 miles from the store. Our team will carefully remove reusable materials such as cabinets, sinks, flooring, doors, and windows, helping to keep valuable items out of landfills while supporting our mission of reuse and sustainability. Plus, you will receive a tax receipt that you can use when filing your taxes.
This service is available only for homes scheduled for demolition, not for remodeling projects. By donating these materials, you are not only reducing waste but also providing affordable building supplies to the community through our store.

How Do I Schedule a Decon?
Scheduling your Decon can be done in four easy steps:
Reach out to us! Visit the Habitat Store, call us at 434-293-6331, or email store@cvillehabitat.org to get started.
We’ll schedule a site visit to inspect the home and determine if the project is a good fit.
If approved, we’ll work with you to schedule a time for our team to perform the deconstruction.
Receive your tax receipt.

Can I schedule a Decon before a remodel?
Unfortunately, no. Our deconstruction service is only available for homes that are scheduled for full demolition. We do not offer removal services for remodeling projects.
Why should I schedule a Decon?
Deconstruction helps reduce landfill waste by salvaging usable materials like cabinets, doors, and fixtures. Your donation supports the Habitat mission by providing affordable building materials through our store and helping fund the construction of homes in the Greater Charlottesville area.
You’ll also receive a tax receipt for the donated materials, which you can use when filing your taxes.

Deconstruction services are totally FREE! Decon is offered at no charge within a 20-mile radius of The Habitat Store.
